Cash Bar ~ Big Screen TV

We will be at the hall for the opening game against the Vikings on Thursday, September 9th.

Everyone is invited to meet at the KC hall for 5:00 when we will walk down to N. Peters to see the Championship Parade.

After the parade, we will return to the hall to watch the game.

We will also be at the hall on September 20th for Monday Night Football against the 49ers.

Doors will open at 5:30, and kickoff is at 7:30.  This is an away game, so parking should not be a problem.

We will charge Mardi Gras prices for drinks: $1 for cokes, $2 for beers, and $4 for mixed drinks.  Leftover beer tickets from Mardi Gras will not be accepted.  But for $20, you can purchase an all-you-can-drink wristband.

Both events will be pot luck.

Marquette Home Building and Improvement Association Meeting

30 minutes prior to the September General Meeting

The Marquette Home Building and Improvement Association was incorporated on July 24th, 1956.  On September 2nd, 1959, the Association completed the first and most important part of its mission, the purchase of our council home at 314 Saint Charles Avenue.  The purpose of the Marquette Home Building and Improvement Association is to hold title to our property at 314 Saint Charles, to collect the income derived from the property, and after paying maintenance and other expenses, turning over the surplus funds to Marquette Council.

Every first degree member of Marquette Council is also a member of the Marquette Home Building and Improvement Association, but only third degree members can vote.  The business of the Association is managed by an eleven member Board of Directors made up of the Grand Knight, the Immediate Past Grand Knight, and nine other Council members.  On the second Wednesday of September the Association holds its annual meeting.  At that meeting, three members of the Board of Directors are elected to serve for a three year term.

Members currently serving on the Board of Directors:

James J. Lynch, Jr. – President
Gerard Keller – First Vice President
Michael R. Jamison – Second Vice President
Barry R. Waller – Secretary
Dr. Kenneth Schott – Treasurer
Stephen F. Babin
Richard C. Lewis

Annual Rudy Classen Memorial Scholarship

Deadline to be determined: June 2011

The annual Rudy Classen Memorial Scholarship will be awarded once again this Spring.  Two $250.00 scholarships are awarded as a memorial to the great Knight, past Financial Secretary, and HPGK, the late Rudolph “Rudy” Classen. The criteria for receiving this scholarship are as follows:

(1) All students going from a Catholic school into a Catholic high school (8th or 9th grade) are eligible.

(2) A 250 word essay entitled “What my Catholic education means to me” will be reviewed by the committee consisting of the Chaplain, Grand Knight and Chancellor. Should a conflict of interest occur, or at the request of one of the committee members, the Chaplain will appoint a Marquette member in good standing as a substitute.

(3) Essays are to be presented no later than the June general meeting to the Deputy Grand Knight. In the event of multiple entries, the Deputy Grand Knight will code the entries to assure anonymity, before presenting the essays to the Grand Knight. Should there be a conflict of interest involving the Deputy Grand Knight then a trustee will be appointed to collect the essays.

(4) The scholarships will be awarded at the Spring Quarterly communion, date and location to be determined by the Church director and Chaplain.

Seminarian Fund

Deadline: June 2011

Marquette supports vocations through Marquette's Annual Seminarian Fund.

Your donations are appreciated

The receipient for 2010 was Paul Clark.

We wish Paul the best of luck.

Paul Clark

Each year Marquette asks its members to support vocations. This Easter season is a perfect time to reflect on the many services and blessings that Brother Knights have received from the Religious. lt is also the perfect time to make a personal commitment to ensure that Catholic clergy will be available to meet our future needs.

For 30 years, the Seminarian Fund has been Marquette's way of saying "thank you" to Catholic men who aspire to server the Church. Last year, the Marquette membership was very generous in its support of vocations.

We hope that you will help us continue a wonderful Marquette tradition of assisting young men on their journey to the priesthood. Solidarity and support of religious vocations is a knightly trait and a blessing of the Catholic Church.

Please send your donations to: Eric Snyder, 209 Tartan Drive, Metairie. LA. 70003.  Make your check out to Marquette Counctl #1437 with Seminary Fund noted on the check. You may also donate at the meetings.
